It's a comeback for Fazenda Sertão on our single origin menu, and we’re rooting for it!

These beans are produced by a dedicated family of second generation coffee growers in Carmo de Minas, led by Francisco Isidro Dias Pereira or "Chico". A one hundred year commitment to excellence in the production of coffee can be tasted in each cup.

This lot showcases a fruity acidity, sweet body and smooth chocolatey finish to swoon over in your espresso. With notes of mango, custard apple and milk chocolate, Fazenda Sertão is a universally pleasing coffee ticking all the boxes - it's sweet, balanced and delicious.

It all began with Chico's grandfather Jose Isidro Pereira, a dentist turned coffee producer. After inheriting Fazenda Sertão when his mother passed away, Jose Isidro met the love of his life Nazareth, they started growing coffee, and had four children - Francisco (Chico), Luiz Paulo, Clycia, and Sandra. Nazareth died in 2021 and is remembered as the matriarch of the coffee family. She lived to 96 and leaves an important legacy in the coffee farming industry in the region.

Fazenda Sertão produces four varieties of coffee, food crops and cattle. Today, it is managed by their son Francisco.More than 30 families live and work on the farm receiving free housing, transportation, medicine and education. The family has always been a pioneer in new methods, and Francisco builds on this legacy processing natural, pulped natural, fermented and honey coffees. Having his coffee back on our menu 8 years later is a testament to his dedication to innovation and quality management.

Coffees from Brazil are commonly looked over as lacking vibrancy or unique characteristics, but this is often a self-fulfilling argument that leads roasters to not give Brazil the attention it deserves. Over the past quarter-century, Brazilian farmers seeking access to the specialty coffee market swapped the traditional natural process for the pulp natural process to increase consistency and quality.

Fazenda Sertão is ticking off all the boxes. It delivers a smooth and complex mouth feel and will be rolling off your palate with delicious, clean flavours.
